Organic Gardening Questions & Answers

My garden dries out too fast. I have to water every day.

A thick layer of mulch is probably in order here. Three to four inches is not too thick. Use spoiled hay, coir, or bark mulch.

Avoid ground up tires, as they contain harmful chemicals.

Adding compost, peat, or coir or all of the above to the soil mix helps a lot too.
How do I amend heavy clay soil?

My advice is don't amend your soil. Create raised beds where you control the soil mix .

It's perfectly acceptable to use your native soil in your soil mix.Use 1/4 to 1/3 native soil, plus 1/3 peat or coir, and 1/3 compost and your soil amending days will be over.
